Our artistic vision: start with a piece of paper

For me, a notebook is a place to try things. A sentence or a scrap of paper can lead to a new idea. That is what I enjoy sharing at Persian Studygram: start with simple materials and see what happens when you put them together.

Three principles that guide my work

Start with something small

We do not need to learn every technique first. Make a small page; the questions and skills you need often become clearer as you work.

Keep the marks of making

A crossed-out line or a torn edge can add something to a page. If you do not like a composition, move things around or put it aside. You do not have to keep everything.

Let the notebook be yours

What a page keeps of your day and your point of view matters as much as how it looks. It does not need to resemble someone else's notebook.

Paper, memory and room to experiment

Junk journaling and paper craft

An envelope, packaging or paper left on your desk can become part of a page. I like that possibility in junk journaling: working with what we have. Reusing paper does not mean every material is free of environmental impact.

Collage and scrapbooking

Put a photograph beside a few written lines and leave some space around them. In collage, play with size and proportion; in a scrapbook, save the details of a memory. You do not need a large collection of supplies to start.

Bullet journaling and planning

A bullet journal can keep tasks and ideas together so you can return to them. To me, planning means choosing what deserves time and leaving room for changes.

Try this perspective on one page

01

Choose a trace of today

Choose a word, colour or scrap of paper that reminds you of today.

02

Make two different arrangements

Try two arrangements before you glue anything down. Change the sizes and spaces, then see which version gives the feeling you want.

03

Leave a sentence and a next step

Write one sentence about what you liked and what you would change next time. It gives you somewhere to begin on the next page.

Creative freedom comes with care

When sharing a page, name your sources of inspiration and check your permission to use photographs and text. Cover personal information about yourself and others. Some pages can stay in your notebook; you do not have to share every experiment.
